Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
This is a journey that no mother wants to go on except when she must stand on behalf of a son. A young black man who believed in his constitution rights to be trained and given permission to carry a gun. I did not believe it was a wise choice because the system does not work for everyone. Especially a young black male!
I have seen it too many times on the news. Black men gunned down by police due to exercising their right to carry a firearm. This was a decision that I did not want my son to choose because it could put him in even more danger with a police officer.
My oldest son had been beaten severely and both jaws broken by a group of young men over 2 years ago. He was jumped from behind for no reason. His mouth was wired for 6 months and had to go through much pain and several dental specialists to recover. My youngest son, Rashuad made a vow that he would not be in a position to where he could not protect himself. He worked at the airport and traveled by bus to get to work. He wanted to be able to protect himself and made the choice to apply for his gun permit. He took all the gun safety classes, background checks and was given his license to carry. Now we arrive to this situation where he is being held for exercising his right and told that he could do prison time. He did not assault anyone, he did not rob anyone, he did not shoot anyone, he had no confrontation with anyone. The gun as I have been told, accidentally discharged when removing it from his jacket. He was not around anyone at that time but it happened in a public area. Two days later, he was picked up and charged. My question is why? I need more answers. My son states it was an accidental discharge in a disclosed area. Why is he being held as if he is a criminal or murderer?
